Today’s situation

 

Ø       65,000 Vermonters uninsured

§         28,000 are eligible for Medicaid or VHAP and choose not to take it

§         15,000 are uninsured, employed

§         15,000 are uninsured, unemployed

§         7,000 are “Not looking for work”

 

Out of these groups 34,000 are 18 – 30 years old and don’t believe they need coverage or aren’t willing to pay even a small portion of their company's plan.

 

Ø       Health Care costs are 14.7% of Vermont’s gross state product

Ø       Vermont is ranked 6th for worst business climate

Ø       Vermont is ranked 17th for highest tax burden
